From the Principal

A message from Mrs Emma Timmins, Principal

Welcome to St Joseph’s Wingham. The school is located near the centre of the Wingham township, nestled on the banks of the beautiful Manning River. Our school has a vision for developing a challenging, authentic and inclusive educational setting. Learning occurs in modern, air-conditioned buildings and the school has a stimulating and well-resourced learning environment. Of, course like all schools, St Joseph’s is committed to the achievement of quality learning.

Our ethos is Catholic and we identify strongly with that charism, so distinct to the Sisters of St Joseph, who began teaching here in 1935. The school operates under the umbrella of the  Catholic Schools Office in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.

We describe ourselves as a learning community because we believe that we are all learners - teachers, students and parents. We are a community in which parents, teachers and support staff work in partnership with each other to advance the learning and growth of the children in our care. Our school motto, ‘Growth in Unity’, signifies the value we place on fostering the sacredness, achievements and potential of each person.

Students at St Joseph’s enjoy a very full school curriculum and we provide programs that cater for a wide range of student abilities, from the gifted and talented, to those requiring support. The performing arts play a very important role in our school. Every student participates in the whole-school drama program  which is a key strategy to success in other learning areas. Sport also plays an important role, with students given the opportunity to participate in pathway sports, inter-school sport and a range of other in-school sporting opportunities. St Joseph’s also provides many other experiences such as debating, games club, public speaking and many more. Our students are environmentally aware and we are very proud of our vegetable gardens, chook shed, water tanks, worm farms and compost bins. We have fitted solar panels to parts of the school to generate power and the grass is maintained in good order with rainwater from our water tanks.

The school values the high level of support we receive from a very active parent body, who work in partnership with staff, to provide programs and resources of the highest quality for our students. I welcome you to St Joseph’s School and with my entire staff look forward to a happy, supportive and productive relationship with you and your children.
