TERM 2 STARTS ON WEDNESDAY 27TH APRIL
Dear Parents and Carers
Here we are at the end of Term 1. We have had a relatively settled term, but COVID and self-isolation have continued to cause staff shortages and many absences for our students. Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding throughout the term. I am praying that the two-week break gives us all chance to recharge and reset ready for Term 2.
Our Year 6 students returned safely and happy from the beautiful Coffs Coast. Thank you to Mrs Cleaver and Mr Buchtmann for accompanying them on this great trip away. A detailed report from the students will be in next term's newsletter.
What does Easter mean for you?
For some people it’s all about hot cross buns, chocolate Easter eggs and holidays.
Lord, the resurrection of Your Son has given us new life and renewed hope. Help us to live as new people in pursuit of the Christian ideal. Grant us wisdom to know what we must do, the will to want to do it, the courage to undertake it, the perseverance to continue to do it, and the strength to complete it. — New Saint Joseph People's Prayer Book
Holy Week Liturgy
Our Holy Week Liturgy this week was such a special chance for us to spend time together to remember such an important event in the Catholic Church. Our students presented a very respectful and reverent portrayal of the events of Holy Week. Thank you to all the teachers who prepared the students so beautifully and to the families that came along to share in this liturgy.
Easter Hat Parade and Raffle
The sun shone brightly yesterday for our Easter Hat Parade. Students had fun making their creations and parading them in front of the school community. Our Easter Raffle was a great success with so many donations - Thank you very much! We were able to offer many prizes and the lucky winners were;
1st - Zahkari O'Toole, 2nd - Tammy Knoke, 3rd - Kim O'Toole, 4th - Nellie Cleaver, 5th - Ben Linehan and 6th - Ben Buchtmann. Class prizes went to Bailey Eakin, Joseph Ayres, Zander Knowles, Matilda Robinson, Riley Pattison, Jai Hannon and Caitlin Watters.
Pupil Free Day
Please note that Tuesday the 26th of April will be a pupil free day and Term 2 will start on Wednesday the 27th of April. Our staff will be undertaking training in attachment and trauma.
Our school will be also holding an ANZAC Day Liturgy hosted by Year 2 on Friday the 29th of April at 11.00am. Parents are welcome to join us for this liturgy.
Children’s University
Attached to the newsletter are some fantastic holiday activities for those students participating in the Children’s University. Students will be able to get hours signed off on their passport every Wednesday with Mrs Hunt.
I pray that you and your families have a blessed and Holy Easter and that you can spend some time together creating wonderful memories.

Prime Minister Award
‘ Being a steward of creation’, ‘trying your best’, ‘speaking with kindness’ and ‘ being a responsible learner’ are some of the qualities that teachers consider when awarding ‘Prime Minister’ at our weekly assembly. It is an acknowledgement of the student’s efforts and they have the privilege of wearing the badge with honour, of suggesting a focus the school can work on, award Gotchas to other students at lunch time as well as earning Gotchas for themselves. Congratulations to Christian Borserio (Week 10) and Harry MacMillan (Week 11).
MJR Awards
As part of our MJR system ,we acknowledge that the following students, Grace Maidens and Ben Buchtmann have reached 100 Gotchas. Well Done!
Welcome Billy Fraser
Mrs Grace Fraser popped in last week to introduce us to "Billy Mathew". It was a lovely visit and we all enjoyed hearing all her family news.
What's been happening in Year 3........
Our Year 3 students have been very creative in their art lessons this term. They completed their class motto at the beginning of the year. Enjoyed Aboriginal painting with Aunty Kylie and have accomplished some great perspective artwork. Recently they have been preparing for NAPLAN with online demonstration tests.
Gifted Education
First of all, thank you to the St Joseph’s community on making me feel so welcome to start the year. I am the new regional Gifted Education Project Officer and I absolutely love working at Wingham alongside the staff and students every Friday. It was great to meet so many members of the community at the St Joseph’s Day Assembly and Liturgy a fortnight ago.
In Week 10, we held a Maths Challenge for the students in Years 3-6. The students watched short films and completed maths problems based on the events in the film. There was a high level of excitement in the hall and it was wonderful to see how the students engaged in the challenges presented, and how they worked collaboratively with their classmates to identify the best strategy to solve each problem. I look forward to running another Maths Day next term!
