Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to Term One! Today was extra-exciting for us as we welcomed our new Kindergarten students. The first few weeks are always a special time for students and their families. New friendships are formed, old friendships consolidated, and new relationships are formed between students and their teachers as they get to know each other. We look forward to another year working in partnership with families to educate our students. As always, if you have any concerns about your child, please contact their teacher. Parent teacher interviews will be held in Week 5 and this will be a great opportunity to touch base with staff and discuss your child’s learning goals for the year.
Our staff and contractors have been busy over the break to ensure the school and grounds are looking fabulous for the start of term.
Over the holidays we have had the following upgrades:
- New CommBox Interactive Touch Screen installed in the library
- LED lighting installed throughout all school buildings
- New sound system installed in the hall
- Deep cleaning of all school buildings including hall
- Our school playground equipment has also been certified and is being enthusiastically used by students.
Prayers for the Hunt Family:
As you would be aware, Mrs Hunt is on leave for a few weeks to care for her father and be with her family. Please keep the Hunt family in your prayers throughout this difficult time. During this time, I will be Acting Principal and Mr Buchtmann will be Acting Assistant Principal. Mrs Wheeler will replace me in the classroom. Thank you to our staff and families for your support in ensuring we have a smooth start to the school year.
Welcome:
We welcome two new members to staff this year.
Mrs Kayla Naqito is teaching Year 4. Mrs Naqito is a Wingham local and has over ten years teaching experience in a wide range of settings and is an asset to our school community. If you see her in passing, please introduce yourself and make her feel welcome.
Miss Kathleen Foster will join us one day per week as our Aboriginal Education Worker Trainee. Kathleen is in Year 11 at St. Clare’s Highschool and will be mentored by Mrs Fraser and Aunty Kylie in her role.
Thank you: Special thanks to Mr Knoke for coordinating our school Swimming Carnival on Friday. Thank you to our staff and parents for supporting the event; and to our students for your participation in the day.
We will continue to support all students in any way that we can to ensure students have a smooth transition to the new school year. Our Pastoral Care Worker Mrs Jane Murray is on site four days per week. Aa a staff, we support students in many ways. Immediate needs may include uniforms, stationery items, lunch boxes, school shoes and socks. Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we have many pre-loved items available. Please reach out if your child requires support.
Warm Regards,
Shae Lapi-an
2024 School Swimming Carnival
On Friday 2nd February 2024 the Wingham pool was alive with energy as students from grades 2 - 6 came together for a day of aquatic excellence and school spirit. Students participated in a variety of events and represented St Joseph’s Wingham wonderfully. Our students were well behaved and extremely tired after a big day of swimming. Congratulations to all who attended, cheered on their team and to those who participated. We extend our gratitude to the dedicated students, enthusiastic spectators, and our incredible team of staff and parent volunteers who worked to make this event possible.
Mr Knoke Year 2 Teacher / Sports Coordinator
Parking:
As you are aware, the laneway on the museum side is a no parking zone. As with all disabled parking, this car space should not be used without a permit. Please be aware that finishing times for our support staff vary. For this reason, and in the case of an emergency, it is important that you do not park any staff vehicles in at any time.

During the final term of last year, staff worked collaboratively to prepare lessons and familiarise themselves with the new content. This year our curriculum focus will be on Maths. For more information about our School Improvement Plan, please consider attending our Parent Engagement Group (PEG) Meeting on Friday 16th February at 3:15pm.

It's an ongoing challenge that requires constant attention. The link below has information for parents, teachers and students with links to report online behaviour.
