Dear Parents and Carers,
It is hard to believe that we are in the final week of Term 1! The year certainly did not start the way I planned, but I would like to thank you all for your support and kind words during what has been a difficult time for myself and my family. I would also like to thank Mrs Lapi-an and Mr Buchtmann who led the school in such a calm and measured manner, and the staff who started the year so wonderfully during my absence.
Last week our school celebrated our Holy Week Liturgy, every class presented a song which formed part of the story of the events of Holy Week. Our students shared the events of Holy Week so reverently and were then able to enjoy our Easter Hat Parade in the afternoon. Thankyou to all the families who donated easter eggs and purchased raffle tickets. We were able to raise $750 during this raffle which will go towards our 2024 fundraising focus, which is technology.

Safeguarding Matters
At St Joseph’s we take the safeguarding of children very seriously. I am the Safeguarding Promoter in the school and during the year I will be providing information that will help us all to keep our children safe.
Building Works Set to Start
During the holidays we are extremely excited to see the construction of our new outdoor learning area begin. When students return after the holidays, there will be some areas that will still be under construction. Staff will advise students of any changes upon the commencement of the term.
Premiers Reading Challenge
The NSW Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is an initiative of the NSW State government. It aims to encourage in students a love of reading for leisure and pleasure and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student - to read, to read more and to read more widely.
If you are interested in your child entering the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Please contact Ms Monkley or Mrs Hunt.
safety resource is now valuable online with updated safety content.
We urge all parents and carers to download this latest edition and discuss the safety content with your children.

RCIC Wingham 2024
(Rights of Christian Initiation for Children)
On Sunday, 7 of our students (Izac, Samuel, Eleanor, Ben, Max, Jai and Susannah) took their first step in becoming full members of the Catholic Church by beginning their Sacramental program for 2024.
These students were given an orientation to the church to talk about all the features of our parish and to explain a little more about the symbols and significance of parts of the church.
If any other families are interested in their children becoming a part of the RCIC program for 2024 there is still time to register, just contact Mr Buchtmann at school or the OLOR Parish office Taree on 6552 1084. Students need to be turning 8 or older this year and have been baptised to be a part of the program.
Holy Week Liturgy
Thank you once again to all of our school community who helped us to
celebrate our Holy Week Liturgy. Holy Week is an important event in the
liturgical life of our school, commemorating the final week of Jesus’ life here
on earth. Through retelling the gospel stories and through song and dance,
our students get a greater appreciation for the life and service of Jesus and
why he is so important in our lives.
As of Sunday 7th April, the mass time for OLPH Parish Wingham has changed
to Sunday at 4:45pm. Father Kevin is committed to continuing a weekly mass
for the community of Wingham and this new time allows him to spend more
time in Wingham with the parishioners.
Liturgies for Term 2
Early in term 2 our school has two important liturgies coming up, being our
ANZAC liturgy on Friday 3rd May (week 1) beginning at 11:00am and our
Mother’s Day Liturgy on Friday 10th May (week 2) beginning at 10:30. All are
welcome at these.

‘Being a steward of creation’, ‘Trying your best’, ‘Speaking with kindness’ and ‘Being a responsible learner’ are some of the qualities that teachers consider when awarding ‘Prime Minister’ at our weekly assembly. It is an acknowledgement of the student’s efforts and they have the privilege of wearing the badge with honour, of suggesting a focus the school can work on, award Gotchas to other students at lunch time as well as earning Gotchas for themselves. Congratulations to Elke Axisa (week 9) and Samuel Ungaro (week 11)

Library News
Welcome to another school year of library borrowing. Library lessons release
teachers from face to face teaching their class (RFF). Teachers are allocated
library time based on their time in front of their class so classes with two
teachers will visit the library twice.
Reading for pleasure is more than just our
homework policy...
Tips for Taking Care Of Library Books
*Create a special place in your home to keep
library books. Pick a place for your child to place
his or her books away from toddlers or family
pets.
*Keep food and drinks away from library books!
Sticky fingers and spills can make pages dirty and
cause permanent damage.
*Encourage your child to bring books back on
time. It's fun to get new books!

At the beginning of year mass, I got to read the gospel even though I
made a little mistake I liked it. Getting my school leader badge was so
cool, I already felt like a school leader even before I got the badge. It wasmy goal to become a school leader and I completed it. I’m so proud of myself. I have two buddies. Next school camp. School camp was so much fun. We got to do a dual
flying fox, and raft building on the first day. On the second day we had
SIX ACTIVITIES!! We got to do canoeing, archery, high ropes, bush craft
(building shelters and making damper), and movie night. It was FUN.
Willow Eijkman
Being a leader at St Joseph has been fun. Some of the jobs we have as
leaders are canteen, sport shed, heath hustle, actives, bus calling, taking
care of kinder, and being. a leader. At camp we did so many activities. My favourite was the flying fox and the one that scared me the most was the big swing. The food was not that bad. It was good we all had fun and it is a fun place. By Shianne Xuereb
I like being a leader because I’m a role model to the little kids. Although I
was nervous in the beginning of our leadership day, and I was nervous to
do my reading I enjoyed it all. I have my two buddies. Year 6 camp was
so fun, my favourite activities were the dual flying fox and bush craft.
My favourite night activity was watching the movie Moana. By Breanna

slushies every lunch and dinner. Max Galea
Being a Yr 6 leader is very exciting. I can’t wait for what this year brings

I like being a year 6 leader is because I like helping our buddies. We are a role model for the entire school. l I also like running health hustle. We
also run activities, it’s good fun. It’s good to be a leader. But we have so
many responsibilities. Year 6 camp was a blast. We got our own little
cabins, we had hamburgers on the first day for lunch then we went on
the flying fox, it was terrifying! Then we watched Moana and sadly we
went home on the bus. Riley Pattison
Being a leader at St Joseph’s is fun, different, and challenging at times.
There are a lot of new jobs to get used to, but they are mostly fun. My
favourite jobs are health hustle, leading Assembly, and canteen. Camp

activities, my three favourite activities were the Giant Swing, High Ropes

Being a school leader is a fun job, you get to ring the bell, take the goals
out. Year 6 has many things to do, the work is hard but the teachers are
cool. I did not go to year 6 camp but I hope it was fun. But the new year
is going well and I enjoy school a lot and I'm looking forward to the new
terms. from Logan Green
Being a leader was actually surprisingly simple (at least so far) the
hardest thing is dancing to Taylor Swift in front of the entire school.
Going to camp was the thing most people were excited about this year,
and understandably so because it was fun!!! The most popular things
were the giant swing, flying fox and canoeing. By Adam Rees
Being a leader at St Joseph’s Wingham is cool because you get lots of
jobs, a buddy, a leader’s badge and lots more. You must set a good
example for everybody especially the new kindies or you might get your
badge taken off you. Year 6 camp was so much, the activities we did
were raft building, giant swing, canoeing, high ropes, damper/survival
and heaps more. I loved camp and you might as well try everything
because you might not ever get the chance to do it again. By Monique
Sternbeck
When I first got my leadership badge I was nervous at first but then I
started to get used to it. At camp there was lots of cool activities such
as the giant swing, flying fox, high ropes and lots more. The food there
was really good, and I always finished my food. By Zeke Pereira
Being a year six leader is so fun we get to bring out the goals, we get to
do dancing in front of the school, doing activities and especially canteen
where we get to sell ice cream and other stuff to the students. On camp
we got to go on many things but the big swing had to be the scariest
but most fun of all and the food was amazing. BY DANIEL SUTHERLAND
When I first started in year 6, I was so nervous at being a role model plus doing all the jobs and health hustle activities. Year 6 camp was sooooo amazing. My favourite part was the giant swing and how you just
dropped so abruptly. Tiana Pulupaki
I have enjoyed being a school leader and helping everyone when I
can.

I found been a leader a little hard because of looking after the
kindies and all the jobs. Camp was good because of the flying fox
