Principal’s Report

Welcome to the cooler change in weather and just in time for the WINTER uniform rollover. Thank you parents for ensuring your children are wearing the correct uniform and if you aren’t sure please read the enclosed policy. The NEW uniform policy has some guidelines around hairstyles and grooming that you need to know about. Please talk to your children why it is necessary to have pride in our uniform and respect for who we are as a school community. We are a community of pride and respect!

A big ‘well done’ must go to our Year 3 & 5 students who participated in NAPLAN testing this week. We are so proud of how our students have applied themselves through the challenges and gave it their best shot! We acknowledge that NAPLAN is only one moment in time and doesn’t always give a true indication of where your child/ren are at academically, but recognise that the data can be useful in helping us plan for future strategic planning.

We have once again been lucky to receive a ‘Sporting Schools Grant’ and this term students will be participating in tennis through the Hot Shots Program.

An innovative group of Year 5 students have created a vision to set up an ‘Environmental Club’ to look at what we are doing, as a school, to protect our environment. They put together a presentation and shared this with the whole school last week. It is inspiring to see such passion for a cause in our students and we look forward to the direction they are taking us. Well done!

Mother’s Day Liturgy

It was great to see so many mums with us at the Mother’s Day Liturgy held last Thursday. We thank Mrs Fraser and Year 3 for all their work in preparing this very special event.

PBS Awards

As part of our PBS system ,we acknowledge that the following students, Jett Bliss has reached 100 Gotchas and Tristian Minns has reached 200 Gotchas! Well Done.

Year 1 Happenings

Year One have had a positive and exciting start to the school year! In Religion we learned about the Easter Story and enjoyed experiencing various celebrations including Saint Patrick’s Day, Shrove Tuesday, and the Holy Week Liturgy. The students made some exceptional Easter hats and had a wonderful time showing off their creations in the Easter hat parade.

Year One are participating in Flexible Learning Groups for Maths, Spelling and Reading. The students are learning and exploring new concepts in these groups and really enjoy working with Year Two!

Mother’s Day is always an exciting time and the students enjoyed writing messages to mum and creating their beautiful self-portraits.

We continually speak about our whole school PBS program and the students work hard to earn gotchas for their positive behaviours! It has been a busy start to Term two and we look forward to what comes next!

Eisteddfod Success

Congratulations to the following students who recently participated in the Taree Eisteddfod;

Kaylla Lulham (3) Encouragement Award – Classical Dance Section and Highly Commended in Demi, New Modern and Tap Dance sections.

New Late arrival/Early Departure/Appointment procedure

With our new management system, COMPASS, we are required to enter late arrivals, early departures and appointments on-line and this will be entered by Mary in the office.

However, if the office is unattended, parents are required to fill in the Late Arrival/Early Departure/Appointment slips to hand to class teachers.

School Fees

Term 2 School Fees have been issued out this week via email. These fees are important for our school’s financial viability and we appreciate your on-going commitment. Term 2 Fees are due and payable by Friday 22nd June.

P&F News

St Joey’s P&F is publishing our very own A5 size COOKBOOK!!

We chose this project because it can involve all our children & families. We will produce a very special cookbook full of the most loved family favourites, it will make a truly beautiful & treasured gift for your family and friends.

Please help us compile this wonderful cookbook by submitting your recipes, we hope to receive recipes from ALL families.

Go online in the link below and submit your recipes using their quick and easy online template. Click on “submit recipe” then scroll down until you see St Joseph’s Primary, click on it and then fill out the template.

If you unable to submit online please just write your recipe out including: the family name and year, the recipe name, prep time, cooking time, serves, ingredients, instructions and any notes e.g. serve with a crusty loaf of bread. If your recipe is from a cookbook, please also write the name of the cookbook. Just send in your recipe with your child and the P&F are more than happy to submit it for you.

Submissions will close Mid-August, we will distribute order forms in the coming months to preorder or you will be able to buy a copy at our School Fete, 24th November for $20.00.

Funds from the sale of this cookbook will go towards a shade sail near the school hall. So, we really hope you will consider supporting this cookbook.

Canteen News

A Sub-committee has been formed of parent volunteers who are interested in making our canteen stronger and healthier, however they need your feedback in making this happen. We invite all parents to complete the online survey by Monday 21st May, so that we can gather as much information in creating a great school canteen for the future. Please click on link below.

A meeting is scheduled for Thursday 24th May at 2pm in the school hall for anyone interested in getting involved with the canteen and to discuss survey results.

FREE CANTEEN WORKSHOP -The Healthy School Canteen Strategy

Canteen staff, volunteers and P&C/P&F representatives are invited to come along and learn all about the new strategy, the Menu Check Service and the Healthy Food Finder online database at Club Taree on Monday 25th June. This free workshop will run from 10.00am to 1.30pm (lunch included). If you are interested, please let Mary in the office know.
