Principal’s Report

What an exciting time of the year we are in right now! We just hosted our school Athletics Carnival where we saw every competitor give it their best by running, jumping or shot putting. We were very blessed and grateful to the Wingham Brush Public School who allowed us to access their long jump pit and use their loudspeaker when ours decided not to work. Thank you for your support! Our carnival ran extremely well this year, thanks to the wonderful organisation from Mr B, parents and staff. A big thank you to Mary for suggesting an excellent meal deal for the day, as well as preparing and cooking! Our community members certainly shine in times such as these. Results from the day saw Paterson take reign from Lawson and I was immensely impressed by the enthusiasm of the younger students in their cheering of team mates. We now have 37 moving onto the Regional Carnival on 22 June @ Tuncurry.

Congratulations to the following Age Champions:

8 yrs – Lewis Downie, Jakayla Minns
9 yrs – Jose McDermott, Georgia Hartley
10 yrs – Willow Doherty, Evie O’Neill
11yrs – Rory Byrne, Claire Downie
Snr – Alex Letheren, Sierra Borserio

Thank you to parents for ensuring our students are coming to school well-presented and adhering to our school uniform policy! We are very proud of our school and this is one way that, as a community, we can continue to effectively show who we are. Please continue to focus on this as we have our upcoming School Photo Day on 18th June, followed by the CSO photo shoot for our new school website on 20th June.

Our P&F are working hard on the upcoming Trivia Night, 30th June and have already pre-sold some tables, which is fantastic. To reach their goal for the night there are still tables available and I am encouraging you to share this with family and friends, as well as secure a table for yourselves to participate in a night filled with laughter, conversation and intrigue. Also, who can beat a night out with kids looked after on site! Please get your tickets through Mary. Our next P&F meeting is on 2 July, all welcome.

Thank you for your continual support in relation to the Tongan Appeal! We are receiving goodies until Week 10 (ie. Stationery, reading books) and we really appreciate your outreach to others.

Taree Eisteddfod

We are so very proud of our school choir who participated for the first time today in the Taree Eisteddfod. Our P&F President, Elise Prosser has been guiding us all year to learn to contrasting songs: 'Junglebook' and 'Hush a bye Mountain'. The nerves set in as we arrived and then as true performers they shone on stage. We were absolutely shocked when we came 1st place in the Small Schools section. Congratulations to all of our students and their massive effort and a huge thank you to Elise!

Dog Safety Visit

The Responsible Pet Ownership Primary School Program recently visited our school to talk to students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and 2. The Program included a dog visit, multimedia tools, role play, song and story time. The Program focused on teaching students about dog safety.

PBS Awards

As part of our PBS system, we acknowledge that the following students, Nic Pereira and Maria Fresen have reached 100 Gotchas. Jackson Barry has reached 400 Gotchas. Well Done.

Eistedfodd Success

Congratulations goes to Katelyn Davidson for coming 4th in the 10yrs Vocal Solo section at the Sydney Eistedfodd held on the 12th June.

She has also achieved great results at Taree Eistedfodd in the Vocal Sections with 2x 1sts, 1 x2nd, 1x3rd and 2 x highly commended.

On top of all this, she is going to be playing the lead role of “Epinone” in the Taree Arts Council Production of Les Miserables to be held in November at the Manning Entertainment Centre

Well done Katelyn!

What’s happening in Learning Support

Firstly, thank you to all the families that have welcomed me to St Joseph's as the Learning Support Teacher. Term One was an extremely busy time preparing documentation for our students with special needs. Student Personalised Plans with individual learning goals were developed in collaboration with class teachers, specialists, allied health, parents and carers. This was a massive undertaking and was a smooth process due to the collaborative and supportive approach of all involved. The student Personalised Plans will be reviewed in early Term Four.

The Learning support team is currently updating student information for the National Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD).

The national data collection on students with disability reinforces the existing obligations that schools have towards students under the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005. It counts the number of students who are supported under these obligations based on the professional judgement of teachers and their understanding and knowledge of their students.

This involves providing the Government non-identifying information regarding our students with Disabilities. A letter went home last week to all parents of students identified under the NCCD.

We are also starting preparations for High School Transition meetings next term for our identified students.

In Terms 2 and 3, I am working with a small group of Stage 2 students to build their social skills. They are looking at personal success, getting along, building confidence, persistence, and resilience. The students will be introduced to; Worried William, Sad Sally, Lazy Larry, Nathan Nuisance and Angry Annie. By the end of the program, students will be able to identify the qualities that will help them be happy and successful.
