Principal’s Report

Well only 3 weeks to go until the end of Term 3! How time flies! Thank you to all of our wonderful dads, uncles and granddads who came along to our Fathers Day Breakfast. It was a fantastic turn out and the students certainly loved having you visit their school. Also, a big thank you to our staff for serving and cooking on the morning. Another big celebration was had last week with our annual Grandparents Liturgy and we so enjoy this day as we get to say a big ‘thank you’ to our special grandparents who support our school community. Thank you to Year 6, Mrs Cleaver, Mary and staff for showcasing heartfelt hospitiality and care for all!

At the last P&F meeting it was decided to change the date of our School Fete to Sunday 25th November to accommodate for other events that clash. The P&F are excited to host this event again this year and are looking for volunteers to help out on the day. Please either let Elise (P&F president) or Mary know asap. Funds from fundraising this year are going towards a laptop trolley for students and a shade outside hall for school functions.

We are rapidly approaching JAFA and I hope that you have purchased your tickets? If not, please go to the link below and secure your seating for a fabulous night of entertainment.

The following information is about the upcoming Plenary Council and how you can participate.

Bishops of Australia to hold a Plenary Council for the Church of Australia. This is an important and significant moment for our church and our diocese. The Plenary Council provides us with an opportunity to listen to God and each other, to share our stories, to respect and hold our difference, and to be transformed and expanded by what we hear. The agenda for the Plenary Council will be created through our listening and dialogue in response to the question:

What do you think God is asking of us in Australia at this time?

There hasn’t been a Plenary Council since the early 1900’s so this is significant for us all in this time. Do you have to be Catholic to have your say? No, this council is for anyone to have input so that all voices are being heard. To learn more about the Plenary Council you can go this following link:

There will be opportunities to participate in group responses over the next 6 months or alternatively you can go to the link below and submit your own responses.

Last Friday staff participated in their annual retreat and this year the focus was on the Pope’s encyclical letter on ecology and climate called ‘Laudato Si’. The Pope has asked us to consider our relationship with the earth and how we can work on restoring it by Seeing, Judging and Acting. Therefore, as a staff we have been called to action to have dialogue around what we can do at St Joseph’s in the future to continue to be stewards of our environment. One of the activities we were involved in was to watch the following YouTube Clip “Man” by Steven Cutts below, and discuss what our head and heart was telling us about this clip and more importantly what our hands need to do about it? This clip is quite confronting but it certainly does open up dialogue about the current state of our world. Stay tuned for further developments!

Father’s Day Breaky

It was great to see so many of our dads and granddads with us for breakfast to celebrate Father’s Day this year. All dads have a crucial role in the family and in supporting their children’s education. The Father’s day breakfast was a great opportunity for dads to meet and relax informally. Also, congratulations to Myra Bushell who won a $50.00 voucher from Bunnings for entering the annual Father’s Day colouring in competition.

Dance-a-thon thank you

The students have raised $2,448.00, which is a wonderful achievement! Our sincere thanks to Mrs Cleaver and the Yr 6 class, our generous sponsors, Wingham Services Club, Wingham Newsagency, Chapman & Wood Chemist, Bunnings at Taree, Wingham Beef Exports and the parents for your support. All money will be used towards computers and resources for our Seasons for Growth program.
