Principal’s Report

The countdown is on until our school fete on 25 November and the P&F are doing a superb job in getting organised and making the day a special event for us all. As the saying goes “many hands make light work” and the P&F are in desperate need of parent volunteers to help out in stalls to make this day a success. Remember that ultimately the funds raised by the P&F go back to supporting your child/ren and benefiting them during their time at school. So please let Mary know when and how you can help asap!

Last week we welcomed our 2019 Kinders to our school community and our Year 5 students did us all proud as they showed developing leadership and kindness to all. Thank you to everyone for making this event a memorable one for our Parents and Kinders.

Last week, we had our trial Nude Food Day. It was very encouraging to see everyone make an effort to have a nude food lunch. Overall, the waste was significantly less on the day. The children were all proud of their effort to become Stewards of Creation.

I am pleased to announce that Mrs Christie Downie has been appointed as our new Learning Support Teacher for 2019. Christie is an experienced teacher who brings a wide depth of knowledge to this role and has firmly established and built positive relationships at Joey’s Wingham with staff, parents and students.

This past week students have been completing their post writing sample so that we can track progress of each student after implementing new teaching strategies into the classroom. This data will also inform us as to how we can then move and support students in 2019 continue to improve their writing skills and develop ideas. This week students will also be completing their annual whole school diagnostic testing and this year we have moved our Year 2-6 students online for reading and maths. By moving online the results are instantaneous and accessible for all staff to review as a collaborative team to reflect upon teaching and learning.

Finally, please note that our Year 6 Graduation has had a date change from Monday 3 December to Tuesday 4 December.

God bless and have a wonderful week!

Kinder Orientation Day

It was wonderful to meet our new kindergarten class for 2019 on Wednesday at the orientation morning. Kindergarten, Year1 and Year 6 classes organised a special welcoming liturgy for the new students and their parents. The new students were then accompanied by their Yr 5 buddies into the Kinder classroom for a fun activity giving parents the opportunity to meet one another over a cuppa and discuss school procedures. Welcome Eleanor Healy, Kaii Macmillan, Ashlea Linehan, Matilda Ryan, Mackenzie Wilmen, Savannah Hagarty, Colebee Hollis, Sharmaine Clarke, Mya Burke, Asta Van Vliet, Matilda Robinson, Delilah Barbour and Hallie Forbes.

Operation Christmas Child - 2018

During term 4 this year, as part of our ongoing commitment towards social justice, our school will once again be supporting the Operation Christmas Child appeal.

The world’s largest Christmas project of its kind, Operation Christmas Child uses gift-filled shoeboxes to share God’s love in a tangible way with impoverished kids. Since 1993, Samaritan’s Purse has globally collected and delivered more than 147 million gift filled shoeboxes to children in over 150 countries. Shoeboxes from the Manning Valley are dispatched to children in seven countries – Vanuatu, Samoa, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia.

Each class has a box for a boy and a girl of similar age to your child / children. What we are asking for is donations of goods such as small toys (a bear, doll or something small), school items (pencil case, pens, pencils, colouring pencils, sharpener, eraser, chalk, etc), small things to play with (tennis ball, cars, skipping rope, marbles, musical instrument, yo-yo, slinky, finger puppets, etc.) or personal hygiene products (soap and face washer, toothbrush hairbrush, comb, scrunchies, hair-clips etc). These boxes will then be collected on Monday 26th November to be sent on in time for Christmas.

As a school community we are very aware of just how fortunate we are to live in a country such as Australia. The response and concern that our school community shows towards social justice issues through out the world is very much admired. We hope that you can support with this very worthy cause again.
