Principal’s Report

Well, we are half way through Term 4 and rapidly approaching the end of the 2018 school year. Our school fete is on Sunday 25 November and I am excited for a fun filled day. Elise Prosser, P&F President is hopeful for another successful fundraising event but needs some more parent volunteers for different stalls. Even if it is only an hour of time that you can donate, that would be much appreciated.

Parents, we have an exciting competition for prospective and currently enrolled Kinders for 2019. For currently enrolled parents please go to the link below to enter into the chance to win a uniform. If you know of any parents still looking around for a school for their child please tell them about our wonderful school and competition.

The following information is about the upcoming Plenary Council and how you can participate.

Bishops of Australia to hold a Plenary Council for the Church of Australia. This is an important and significant moment for our church and our diocese. The Plenary Council provides us with an opportunity to listen to God and each other, to share our stories, to respect and hold our difference, and to be transformed and expanded by what we hear. The agenda for the Plenary Council will be created through our listening and dialogue in response to the question:

What do you think God is asking of us in Australia at this time?

There hasn’t been a Plenary Council since the early 1900’s so this is significant for us all in this time. Do you have to be Catholic to have your say? No, this council is for anyone to have input so that all voices are being heard. To learn more about the Plenary Council you can go this following link:

http://plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au/resources/watch/

There will be opportunities to participate in group responses over the next 6 months or alternatively you can go to the link below and submit your own responses.

In response to the Pope’s encyclical letter on ecology and climate called ‘Laudato Si’ as per last newsletter, our Eco Club has responded by putting up posters around the school to encourage students, staff, parents and visitors to make better choices for our environment. Check them out!

Creative Arts in Year 2

This term in Creative Arts Year 2 have been focusing on the medium of photography and taking different types of photos in different settings for different purposes. This week we focused on taking portraits of our classmates and looked at aspects such as the orientation of the photo, the positioning of the subject and the focus of the picture. From the portraits below we then compared our work to those of a professional photographer by taking a look at our school photos from earlier in the year. I know, it’s hard to tell which ones are which!

Operation Christmas Child - 2018

During term 4 this year, as part of our ongoing commitment towards social justice, our school will once again be supporting the Operation Christmas Child appeal.

The world’s largest Christmas project of its kind, Operation Christmas Child uses gift-filled shoeboxes to share God’s love in a tangible way with impoverished kids. Since 1993, Samaritan’s Purse has globally collected and delivered more than 147 million gift filled shoeboxes to children in over 150 countries. Shoeboxes from the Manning Valley are dispatched to children in seven countries – Vanuatu, Samoa, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia.

Each class has a box for a boy and a girl of similar age to your child / children. What we are asking for is donations of goods such as small toys (a bear, doll or something small), school items (pencil case, pens, pencils, colouring pencils, sharpener, eraser, chalk, etc), small things to play with (tennis ball, cars, skipping rope, marbles, musical instrument, yo-yo, slinky, finger puppets, etc.) or personal hygiene products (soap and face washer, toothbrush hairbrush, comb, scrunchies, hair-clips etc). These boxes will then be collected on Monday 26th November to be sent on in time for Christmas.

As a school community we are very aware of just how fortunate we are to live in a country such as Australia. The response and concern that our school community shows towards social justice issues through out the world is very much admired. We hope that you can support with this very worthy cause again.
