Principal’s Report

Well here we are at the end of another school year and say farewell to 2018, our Year 6 students and Mrs Fraser! Our Year 6’s have had their end of Year 6 graduation and Mass of which they once again showed what amazing leaders they have been as they carried themselves with grace and dignity. It was a wonderful evening to share with them and parents you can be very proud of your children as they enter into the world of high school. Well done to Mrs Cleaver and staff for this wonderful night of memories and all of the successful fundraising efforts!

Mrs Fraser is expecting a baby early next year so she will not be returning in a full time capacity but hope that she will continue to work on a casual basis as she is an exemplary educator who has positive relationships with staff, parents and most importantly, students. Blessings for you Mrs Fraser and your impending arrival!

A big thank you to Ms Lisa Knowles who has also been a part of our staff in Term 4 and working with students. We value your contributions and hope that you will continue to pursue your career in education.

It is with a range of emotions that I write my final newsletter as Principal of St Joseph’s Wingham. Over the past 5 years, I have felt a great sense of community and welcome by parents, staff, students and community members and for this, I will always feel blessed and truly grateful. As mentioned last week at my farewell liturgy my first introduction to Joey’s wasn’t the one I envisioned, with a broken ankle but in true Joey’s spirit I was supported through those first weeks by everyone. I know that I can leave with a full heart filled with pride and wonderful memories of all that we have achieved together academically, aesthetically, socially and spiritually. As any leader there are always challenges but that is what makes us stronger and I confidently know that Joey’s will continue to thrive and grow due to the practices and processes that have been strengthened over the last 5 years. The Catholic Schools office will be advertising early Term 1 to appoint your new leader with the intention for the successful applicant to begin Term 2, 2019.

In conclusion, I would really like to say a big thank you to Joey’s staff, parents and students and wish you all a very safe, happy and festive Christmas and New Year! Blessings for what the future brings you all!

End of Year School Awards

Educational Award – Sharlee Hurley

This award has been kindly donated by the Wingham Branch of the CWA. It is awarded to a Year 6 student that has made consistent contributions to all areas of school life over their time at St. Joseph’s Wingham.

Educational Award – Pippa Guppy

This award was kindly donated by the Sisters of St. Joseph. Each year they attend many celebrations at our school and admire the wonderful gifts and talents of our students. This award is presented to one Year 6 student who has demonstrated outstanding contributions to all aspects of school life.

Growth in Unity Awards

These awards are awarded to two students from each class who have demonstrated growth in all areas over the course of the school year. Our school motto “Growth in Unity” can often be rephrased as together we grow. These students have worked together with their peers, as constructive members of their class groups and have made many pleasing social and academic gains throughout the year. This year our Growth in Unity awards are presented to the following students:

K – Breanna Swiercczynsk and Lincoln Mostran

1 – Nate Bell and Maharlia Minns

2 - Shane Clarke and Robert Duke

3 – Cade Van Ewyk-Campbell and Ava Doherty

4 – Mia Lucas and Indianna Macmillan

5 – Shamayah Bliss and Jayden Clarke

6 - Lara Bryant and Kai Davidson

Mary MacKillop Award – Joshua Wicks

This award is presented to one student each term that consistently goes above and beyond to put the needs of others first. This award is founded on one of the most motivating and known sayings of Saint Mary MacKillop “never see a need without doing something about it” (1871). We present this award to someone who follows in Saint Mary’s footsteps by reaching out to the most needy and vulnerable in our school community.

Touchstone Award – Charlie Pereria

The Touchstone award is an award given to a Year 6 student who demonstrates Christian leadership and the qualities we see on the stones (love, hope, justice, courage, reconciliation, compassion, service, faith and tolerance). The touchstones symbolise the Gospel Values which we live out here at St Joseph’s.

Art Awards for Rotary – Blake Fishwick, Lara Bryant & Kai Davidson

Each year our senior students enter an art competition run by Rotary. Ron Hindmarsh donates his time in Term 3 and 4 to teach the students how to draw. Then he presents our senior students with an award for their achievements.

PBS Awards

As part of our PBS system we acknowledge that the following students, Winmalee Hollis has reached 200 Gotchas, Rani Bushell, Emma Letheren, Alex Letheren and James Kemp have reached 300 Gotchas and Lara Bryant has reached 400 Gotchas. Well done!
