Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

It is hard to believe that we are half way through the term!

Last week I attended the Australian Catholic School Principal’s Conference in Sydney. One of the main themes for the conference was wellbeing and it was very timely as next week is wellbeing week in our school.

As part of wellbeing week Mrs McEwen and I will be hosting an afternoon cuppa on Wednesday the 5th of June from 2.30pm – 3.00pm in the hall. It is a great opportunity to meet up with other parents before you pick your children up from school and we would love for you to come and join us.

On Monday the 3rd of June we will have our next P & F Meeting. This is a great way to become involved in our school and I am looking forward to working with our parents and the P & F in creating a strong parent school partnership for our students.

At the end of this term the staff of St Joseph’s will be reviewing our School Vision and Mission. This is a vital document in our school and provides a public statement about who we are, what we stand for and vision for the school. For this to be a really valuable document we will be asking for parent feedback regarding what you value at St Joseph’s and provide input into our future vision and mission statements. Please keep an eye out in the coming weeks for an opportunity to provide input.

This week we recognise National Reconciliation Week. On the Reconciliation Australia Website, I read a simple statement which I wanted to share with you. “Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.” Respectful relationships are so important and something that we do so well at St Joseph’s. The children that walk through our gates every day are encouraged to show respect, care and compassion for others and in turn Make Jesus Real every day.

God Bless

PLEASE NOTE – PUPIL FREE DAYS – TERM 2
will be on Thursday 4th July and Friday 5th July

Prime Minister Award

‘ Being a steward of creation’, ‘trying your best’, ‘speaking with kindness’ and ‘ being a responsible learner’ are some of the qualities that teachers consider when awarding ‘Prime Minister’ at our weekly assembly. It is an acknowledgement of the student’s efforts and they have the privilege of wearing the badge with honour, of suggesting a focus the school can work on, award gotchas to other students at lunch time as well as earning gotchas for themselves. Congratulations to Taleigha Crowe (Week 5) and Liam McGreal (Week 6).

MJR Awards

As part of our MJR system ,we acknowledge that the following student, Myra Bushell has reached 300 Gotchas! Well Done.

Library Happenings

Wow, what a day! K-6 came together on Wednesday 22nd May at 11am to watch Jimmy Giggle and Matt Cosgrove (author) read Alpacas with Maracas. The children (and adults) loved the story which was produced by Story Box Library.

After the story we split into our house groups and our Year 6 leaders organised the younger students in a ‘sound off’. Each group had instruments and 10 minutes to produce 3 rounds of we will rock you, after which they presented to each other. The comments from the students indicated they thoroughly enjoyed the event!

Stories are made to be shared and enjoyed in a variety of ways; quietly, loudly, on your own or with a million others. Story Box library is an Australian initiative in which Australian celebrities and identities read quality Australian stories. You can buy or gift a subscription to this fantastic website. During Australian library and information week the students excitedly watched many stories as we were lucky enough to have free access.

Just a reminder that library borrowing happens during library lessons;

Monday: Year 6, Year 5, Year 1, Year 2
Tuesday: Year 3, Year 4, and Kindergarten

”The only thing that you have to absolutely have to know is the location of the library”

Happy Reading,
