Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 3. We have such a busy and exciting term coming up and all students have returned well rested and ready to learn.

This week we welcomed a new student into Year 1. I would like to welcome Zeke and his family to St Joseph’s.

This term Sport will be on Wednesday. Every class will be participating in AFL sessions conducted by AFL Development Officers from AFL North Coast.

Canteen will begin on Monday and will be every Monday this term. Volunteers are always welcome to help and if you are interested in helping, please contact Mary.

Please remember if your child is arriving late to school or leaving early, you need to sign them in at the kiosk in the office.

During our Pupil Free Days at the end of last term the staff worked on reviewing our Vision and Mission Statements. We had two days of research, conversation and reflection and I am so pleased to say that we have re-drafted our new Vision and Mission Statements for consultation. I would like to thank all parents who completed the survey as your comments were considered in the development of these statements. If you would like to provide any feedback of our new statements, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Vision

Through Jesus Christ we learn, love and live in unity.

Mission

St Joseph’s is an inclusive Catholic educational community. Through quality teaching centred on Jesus, our students are engaged and confident learners who make a positive impact on society.

Have a wonderful fortnight and please spare a thought for all of those on the land who are so desperate for rain.

God Bless

School News

Welcome!

Welcome Zeke Pereira (Year 1) and family to our school community.

Prime Minister Award

‘ Being a steward of creation’, ‘trying your best’, ‘speaking with kindness’ and ‘ being a responsible learner’ are some of the qualities that teachers consider when awarding ‘Prime Minister’ at our weekly assembly. It is an acknowledgement of the student’s efforts and they have the privilege of wearing the badge with honour, of suggesting a focus the school can work on, award gotchas to other students at lunch time as well as earning gotchas for themselves. Congratulations to Nayte Foley.

MJR Awards

As part of our MJR system ,we acknowledge that the following student, Adena Campbell has reached 200 Gotchas! Well Done.

Year 3 Happening’s

Year 3 were extremely busy in the last few weeks of term. After a fun filled Term looking at perspective of character within narrative and learning about empathy the students put their new skills to work to create a weather report. The children worked with a technology Green Screen app to imitate national news reporters. We looked at a range of different weather types, variables, similarities and patterns across our Australian continent. The students were highly engaged and enjoyed learning about various aspects of technology and climates.

Excursion

Year 3 and 4 were rewarded for their great efforts throughout Term 2 with a wonderful excursion to the Manning Entertainment Centre to see the stage play, Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts. The students were well behaved and enjoyed a fantastic stage play.

Term 3 is going to be a busy term. In English we are beginning to learn about speech writing and improving comprehension in reading. Students have begun their JAFA preparation and in Religion we will be looking at the Hebrew scriptures. There will also be some fun and exciting hands on initiatives commencing in Mathematics.
