Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

This has certainly been a very exciting fortnight. The community of St Joseph’s is such a wonderful example of how we can all work together as a team to create such an amazing learning environment for our students.

Over the last fortnight we welcomed three new students to our St Joseph’s Community, Charlotte in Kinder, Monique in Year 1 and Lilly in Year 2.

We are very excited to congratulate Nicholas Pereira in Year 4, who was successful in gaining selection in the Diocesan Athletics Team for shotput and will now compete at Polding in Sydney next term.

Our new touchstone value didgeridoos have been installed and look fantastic. They are such a great reminder of the values that we see every day at St Joseph’s.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank Ms Kate Monkley our very talented Librarian who has put together a wonderful Book Week Celebration for us. Over the past fortnight there have been competitions, the book fair, and dress ups, and of course some fantastic quality books. Kate has also spent a considerable amount of time coordinating our pre-school visit for Book Week which saw 60 pre-schoolers visit St Joseph’s for 2 hours to participate in activities led by our Year 5 and 6 students.

On Wednesday we also held our Dance-a-thon. Mrs Shane Cleaver has done a wonderful job with Year 6 in organising prizes, dances and a whole lot of fun for our students. The money that was raised for this goes towards our Seasons for Growth program and our technology resources. Thanks Mrs Cleaver and Year 6 for all of your efforts in a fantastic event.

On Thursday we hosted 26 Primary Principals from across our Diocese for a tour of our school. Our Year 6 leaders again stood up and represented our school with pride. They were wonderful tour guides and showed off our beautiful school with pride.

On Friday had our Netball Gala Day which was coordinated by Mrs Long. This is a huge event with all of our Catholic Schools in the Manning competing in this fun day. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help on the day and Mrs Long for organising the day. More about this in our next newsletter.

Please keep Lewis, Jose, Jake and Caitlin in your prayers as they make their First Holy Communion this weekend.

Have a wonderful fortnight and don’t forget about our Father’s Day stall on the 29th of August and our Father’s Day Breakfast and liturgy on the 30th of August.

God Bless

Father’s Day: On Friday 30 August St Joseph’s will celebrate Father’s Day with the annual Dad’s Breakfast. beginning at 7:30 am. All dads (and granddads) are cordially invited to be our guest for the morning. Enjoy a McJoey bacon & egg burger, a hot cuppa and a chat with other dads and grandparents in our school community.

School News

We welcome 3 x new students to our school community - Monique Sternbeck (Yr 1), Charlotte Hughan (K), younger sister of Destiny Mastop (Yr 3) and Lilly Mateer (Yr 2).

Prime Minister Award

‘ Being a steward of creation’, ‘trying your best’, ‘speaking with kindness’ and ‘ being a responsible learner’ are some of the qualities that teachers consider when awarding ‘Prime Minister’ at our weekly assembly. It is an acknowledgement of the student’s efforts and they have the privilege of wearing the badge with honour, of suggesting a focus the school can work on, award gotchas to other students at lunch time as well as earning gotchas for themselves. Congratulations to Gabby Swierczynski.

Well done Nic!

Following the Diocesan Athletics Carnival in Glendale last fortnight, Nic Pereira has been selected to represent at the Polding Athletics Carnival on 18th October. Nic will compete in the Shot Put event. We are all very proud of you Nic!

Assumption Mass

Last Thursday celebrated the feast of the Assumption of Mary, with mass with the OLPH Wingham Parish. Thank you Father George for saying mass for us and thank you to the students for being so polite and reverent in mass.

Book Week Fun

Wednesday’s festivities began with the school Dance-a-thon – an initiative of the Year 6 leadership group. They had written to local businesses seeking sponsorship and this helped them offer some excellent incentives for student fundraising. Year 6 did an excellent job of leading the dance sessions. Thank you to Mrs McEwen for providing her home grown juicy oranges for everyone to enjoy in the break, before getting back on the dance floor.

We also welcomed pre-schoolers to join in the fun. They came along to “Joeys International Spy School” to take part in lots of great activities with the help of our amazing Year 5 and 6 students.

We finished the day with the book character parade. It was great to have so many family members join us for the occasion. Thank you to all parents, teachers (especially Ms Monkley), for a great day of enjoyment, discovery and fun with literature.

Grandparent’s Liturgy

We thank the many grandparents and family members who were able to be with us for the Grandparents Day Liturgy held yesterday. The children certainly love to see their grandparents visit them at school and we are grateful for your strong support. My thanks to Mrs Cleaver and Year 6 students for coordinating the wonderful liturgy!
