Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful two weeks we have had. Our Mother’s Day Liturgy was such a beautiful celebration of all the special ladies in our lives. Mr Buchtmann and Year 2 along with Miss Rego and Kinder did such a lovely job hosting our liturgy. I enjoyed meeting many of you and will do my best to remember your names, but it may take a while. I would also like to thank the parents who helped with the Mother’s Day Stall, I am sure many of you received a special gift on Sunday.

We had a number of students who travelled to Newcastle for the Diocesan Cross Country and they had a great day representing our school. Their sportsmanship and efforts in their running is something that they should all be very proud of.

This week NAPLAN started, our students and teachers are using the new online assessment system and the results from this data will allow us to continue to strive to improve the teaching and learning that happens at our school. St Joseph’s Wingham was congratulated in the Director’s Bulletin this week for being one of only two schools in the Diocese to demonstrate above expected learning gains for our students in Numeracy from Years 3 to 5. This is due to the hard work of our teachers and their commitment to helping all of our students achieve to be the best they can be.

We have noticed that there seem to be a lot of children getting dropped off to school very early. While we understand that you may need to get to work, please be mindful that formal supervision of students does not start until 8.40am.

Please be mindful when you post photos of students on social media that you are only posting your child. We have a number of students in the school who do not have permission to appear on social media and we need to ensure that their privacy is protected.

On Friday we held our Athletics Carnival at St Joseph’s Taree. They were very welcoming in providing the venue and opening their canteen for us and providing some great meal deals. We moved the carnival this year due to difficulties getting the grounds across the school marked by council in time for our carnival. Congratulations to Mr Wickham the carnival organiser and to all of the staff, parent helpers and students who made it such a great day.

God Bless

Prime Minister Award

‘ Being a steward of creation’, ‘trying your best’, ‘speaking with kindness’ and ‘ being a responsible learner’ are some of the qualities that teachers consider when awarding ‘Prime Minister’ at our weekly assembly. It is an acknowledgement of the student’s efforts and they have the privilege of wearing the badge with honour, of suggesting a focus the school can work on, award gotchas to other students at lunch time as well as earning gotchas for themselves. Congratulations to Denny Cole.

MJR Awards

As part of our MJR system ,we acknowledge that the following student, Lewis Downie and Jakayla Minns have reached 200 Gotchas and Nicholas Blanco has reached 300 Gotchas! Well Done.
