Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a fantastic two weeks with students really settling into their new classes and enjoying learning. We have had a number of visitors to our school over the past few weeks from the Catholic Schools Office and many of them have commented on the feeling in the school, one visitor said our school “had a real buzz” about it and I would agree, to see our teachers and students so excited about the learning taking place is truly wonderful.

It has also been wonderful to watch our Year 6 students step into their role as school leaders and to celebrate them in our Beginning School Mass this week. Our school highly values the development of leadership in our students and our Year 6 students are doing a great job running activities throughout the school, taking care of their Kinder buddies and being real role models for the rest of the school in their behaviour.

Congratulations Mrs McEwen

Every year the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle holds an annual Called to Serve Mass and Awards Ceremony. The Emmaus Awards recognise staff from the Diocese who have contributed significantly in their field. This year our Pastoral Care Worker Mrs Jo McEwen was awarded the Emmaus Award for School Support Staff which was presented last Tuesday night in Newcastle. We were able to celebrate this achievement and re-present her award at our Beginning School Mass this week. Jo has been the Pastoral Care Worker at our school for the past 11 years. She is a constant source of support and care for our students, staff and families and provides a valuable link between our school and the Parish. I am sure you will join me in congratulating Jo on receiving a very well deserved award.

Visiting Relics

This week our Parish was honoured to host the relics of St Therese and her parents. We were the only Parish in the Diocese to host these relics. I hope you had a chance to view the relics while they were here.

Regional Swimming

Last week I was attended the Regional Swimming Carnival in Gloucester. Our students were outstanding and I was so proud of their sportsmanship and behaviour during the day. Congratulations to Gabriela, Zarah and Reuby who have been successful in gaining selection on the Regional Team to swim at the Diocesan Carnival.

It is great to see some new faces in our canteen helping. We are always looking for volunteers, so if you can help, even if it is only one day please contact Mary in the office.

This year we are starting Ukelele Lessons for Years 3 – 6, if you are interested in your child taking part in these groups please return the note that came home this week.

Our School Fete is getting closer

Our school fete will be on Saturday the 28th of March, you will notice notes and calls for help beginning to come from our P&F committee. Please consider giving a small amount of time to help make our fete a success. 100% of the money raised goes to our school enabling us to maintain technology and purchase other valuable resources within the school.

What’s happening in Year 6

The start of Year 6 is always a busy and exciting time for the students. They have waited many years to become school leaders. The students have shared their thoughts on becoming a school leader and the photos show how much the school relies on them to keep things running!

Bins, bins and more bins!

Collecting soft plastics cuts down on our school waste.

The sports shed keeps us busy at lunch and recess.

We enjoy being part of the assembly team.

There’s always lots of work to be done.

Health hustle activities are popular with all the kids.

Dance health hustle allows us
to be creative with our moves.

The worms are great and help
us to keep our gardens healthy.

We finally made it to the Year 6 tables!

Chairs for Sale

Last year we were lucky enough to receive a large amount of school furniture from another Catholic School. This enabled us to update some furniture in classrooms. We have been left with a number of child sized chairs which we no longer need. If you would like to buy one of these chairs for home they are $5 each. Please contact Mary in the office if you are interested.
